    Herpes Vaccines

RVX- Rational Vaccines- The company has disappeared with rumors of coming back, but nothing official from the company itself and all the websites have been taken down. It does not look good as of now and with all of the ongoing investigations.

GEN-003- Genocea- The companies herpes vaccine seems to be dead in the water without major funding, and it doesn't seem likely to happen as of now. However, it was partially effective but obviously, not quite good enough to attract investors to push it to market.

Admedus herpes vaccine- PhaseIIa results were not very exciting. It might be too early to know the future of the vaccine, but it doesn't look so good at the moment.

Trivalent Herpes Vaccine- Is a subunit herpes vaccine to prevent herpes in the uninfected population, However, Dr. Harvey Friedman claims it might be able to work therapeutically for infected people, if used with the Prime and Pull method but that needs to be looked at more closely. For now, the focus is on a preventative. Dr. Harvey Friedman hopes that safety trials might start in 18 months or some time in mid-2019, but all that depends on funding, as always. Dr. Harvey Friedman believes that a subunit is far safer than a live virus because a live vaccine can cause infection.
    Antivirals

AiCuris Pritelivir- AiCuris Granted Fast Track Designation by U.S. FDA for Oral Pritelivir for Treatment of HSV Infections in Immunocompromised adults. If approved it will be the first new antiviral herpes medication in years. It remains to be seen if it will eventually be approved for normal patients or if doctors will prescribe it off-label.
    CRISPR

Excision BioTherapeutics-The company plans to start trials for both HSV-1 and HSV-2 around 2019 or 2020 depending on funding and IND status. They use a type of gene edit called "Triplex gRNA Excision Knockout" using saCas9 for HSV-1 and CasY for HSV-2. This may perhaps be the most promising therapy or functional cure to date if they're able to overcome all of the safety concerns.
Excision refers to their HSV-1 program as EBT104 and their HSV-2 program as EBT105.

If Crispr starts in 2019, a cure can be out by 2025. That could happen before Pritelivir is approved for genital herpes and long before any vaccines are approved. This dreaded disease has been around for far too long, and people are sick of suffering from it with no end in sight. So far every single vaccine has failed to work or make it to market, and more people are getting infected every single day. With the huge failure of RVX, there isn't much hope left other than CRISPR, Cas9, and CasY. Will somebody PLEASE bring me a cure!

2025 seems like a long time

10 years might be a bit too optimistic for CRISPR to make it to market. Every time we turn around there is an article about how it may not work because of this and that, We could be in for a long haul. I would guess more like 15 or 20 years and maybe more. I think some form Gene editing is the best bet but dont expect this to be around the corner. I have to wonder if Excision will even continue their plans for trials in 2019-2020 or abandon it for something else.
